Help and frequently asked questions

Getting started

How do I start a notebook? Open the Notebook Maker. It opens your last notebook, or a new dot grid notebook the first time. Use Add pages to insert templates, or open My notebooks to start from an example.

How do I add a year of weekly pages? Choose Add pages, pick the weekly template, set the number of pages (for example 52) and the starting date. Each page moves forward by one week.

How do I change several pages at once? Select them in the page list (Shift-click for a range, Ctrl/⌘-click to add single pages, or Ctrl/⌘ + A for all). The template, layout options and page style you change in the properties panel apply to every selected page.

Can I undo? Yes, with the undo button or Ctrl/⌘ + Z. Up to 100 steps are kept while the notebook is open.

Saving and moving notebooks

Where is my notebook saved? In your browser on this device, automatically, a moment after each change. “Saved on this device” appears in the top bar.

How do I use my notebook on another computer? Open My notebooks, export the notebook as a file, and import that file on the other computer.

I see “Not saved”. Your browser’s storage is full or blocked (some private windows do not allow storage). Export the notebook as a file so you do not lose it, and free some space by deleting old notebooks.

Printing

Which PDF should I download? The print-ready booklet if you will print double-sided and fold; the reading-order PDF for tablets or for printing single pages to punch or bind in a ring binder.

My printed pages are smaller than expected. Print at Actual size / 100%, not “Fit to page”. See How to print a booklet.

The back of the sheet is upside down. The flip edge in your print dialog does not match the setting in Notebook Generator. See the section on flip edges in the printing guide.

Why were blank pages added? Folded booklets need a multiple of four pages. The export summary shows how many blank pages were added and where.

The dialog says my pages do not fit. Two pages side by side are wider than the paper. Choose larger paper (the dialog suggests some) or turn on scaling. Scaling makes every page smaller than its real size, so it is never applied without your consent.

Can I print two small notebooks on one sheet? Yes. Turn on Two copies per sheet for small sizes such as A6 or Passport.

Languages

What is the difference between the app language and the page language? The app language is the language of the buttons and menus. The page language (in the Notebook tab) decides headings, month and weekday names printed in your notebook. They are independent.

Are Chinese, Japanese and Korean supported in PDFs? Yes. The required fonts are embedded in the PDF automatically.

Accessibility

The maker can be used with the keyboard: press ? to see all shortcuts. Dialogs trap focus and close with Escape, and all controls have labels for screen readers. The preview images themselves are visual; the page list names every page and template.
